Foot health | Podiatrist near you
It is common for people over the age of 60 to be suffering from one or multiple chronic health issues. These health issues could have an impact on foot health which could lead to an increased risk of foot ulcers, foot pain, poor mobility, increased falls risk and much more.
Major foot issues can be extremely debilitating which can result in loss of mobility and independence due to pain. With the guidance of a Podiatrist, you will learn to perform your own foot health checks, foot hygiene and have a better understanding of appropriate footwear for your condition.
When do I need to see a Podiatrist?
- If you are unable to perform your own foot hygiene
- If you have type 2 diabetes mellitus
- If you have a poor choice of footwear

FAQs
Do you trim fingernails?
Unfortunately, Gen Physio podiatrists do not trim fingernails, as this is not within the scope of practice of podiatrists.
How often should I see a Podiatrist?
Regular podiatry care is recommended between 6-8 weeks each consultation. This allows your feet and the conditions you may be suffering from to be regularly monitored and kept in check.
What to expect during the home visit?
A podiatrist can help you with any issues that involve feet and ankles. They help people treat problems with a patient’s foot or lower legs after an injury or surgery. The visit often starts by asking questions about your medical history. To find out more about your first podiatric home visit, please give us a call.Ā
Can Podiatrists or Chiropodists provide home visits?
Yes, there are some Podiatrists or Chiropodists who offer home visit services. It’s important to check with the specific provider or clinic in your area to find out if they provide an in-home or home visit service and under what conditions. Home visits can be a convenient option for those with mobility issues, difficulty traveling, or people who prefer a more personalised service in the comfort of their own home. A home visit service can also be beneficial for the elderly and disabled who have difficulty reaching their feet to attend to them and leaving their home. Always make sure to ask about any additional fees and the specific services that can be provided during a home visit.
Are there any free podiatry services available for pensioners?
Availability of free podiatry services for pensioners can vary depending on your location and local healthcare programs. It is recommended to check with your local healthcare provider or community health centre to find out if such services are available in your area. If you are suffering from a chronic disease, you may be eligible for Chronic Disease Management (CDM) referral for Podiatry services from your General Practitioner (GP). It is important to ask your GP if you feel you may be eligible for this funding. Older Australians that meet certain criteriaās may be able to access Government funding through a Home Care Package. A Home Care Package ensures you get affordable care services at home, with little to no, out of pocket costs.
