Return to work after an injury

Are you returning to the work force after suffering an injury? Returning to the workplace after a period of time off can be physically and mentally difficult. It can sometimes seem hard and nearly impossible. However, returning to work is a key step in your rehabilitation process and we are here to help you.

But, why would you want to return to work sooner?

There have been many studies conducted looking at the effects of worklessness. These effects include:

  • Loss of fitness
  • Physical and mental deterioration
  • Increased risks of poor health
  • Social Exclusion and,
  • Psychological distress and depression

There are also many work related injuries that you might not realise a physiotherapist can help with. Common work related injuries can include but are not limited to:

  • Muscle strains
  • Ligament sprains
  • Back and neck pain
  • Whip lash associated disorders
  • Repetitive strain injuries
  • Carpel tunnel
  • Tennis/Golfers elbow
  • Injuries associated with slips, trips and falls and,
  • Fractures

Qualified physiotherapists and exercise physiologists are able to help with your rehabilitation for all the above conditions.

What does returning to work mean for you

When we talk about retuning to work, that does not always mean to full time hours and full duties. Sometimes workers can return to work sooner with reduced hours and/or modified duties.

How we can help

A qualified physiotherapist will conduct a thorough initial assessment the first time you see them. Treatment often consists of individualised hands on treatment and an ongoing rehabilitation exercise program. Physiotherapists can also create a suitable duties plan for you so you can return to work sooner and safely. Work place inspections can be carried out to minimise this type of injury in the future.
