What is Aquatic Physiotherapy?

Aquatic Physiotherapy sometimes referred to as hydrotherapy is a form of physiotherapy usually conducted in a pool of warm water. The buoyancy of the water aids movement and reduces weight bearing on painful joints. This allows therapeutic exercises to be progressed safely using the resistance of the water.

It has been proven to help manage a wide variety of conditions including:

  • Arthritis
  • Balance problems and falls prevention
  • Rehabilitation for total knee and total hip replacements
  • Back pain
  • Sports injuries and
  • Obesity

There are many benefits of aquatic physiotherapy including but not limited to:

  • Pain relief
  • Muscle relaxation
  • Improved mobility
  • Muscle strengthening
  • Improved balance and coordination
  • Increased joint range of motion
  • Increased circulation
  • Reduce muscle spasm and
  • Improved general fitness

Each physiotherapy session is tailored specific to you and your needs. A detailed initial assessment would be conducted in the comfort of your own home prior to your first aquatic physiotherapy session.
